1. Explain it simply
Put 要 right before a verb: 要 + verb.
It means 'want to' or 'be going to' do something.
To say you do NOT want to, use 不想, not 不要.
2. Show examples
我要去北京。
Wǒ yào qù Běijīng.
I want to go to Beijing.
要 + verb
我们要买新桌子。
Wǒmen yào mǎi xīn zhuōzi.
We want to buy a new table.
Stating an intention
我不想去学校。
Wǒ bù xiǎng qù xuéxiào.
I don't want to go to school.
Negative = 不想
3. Share a tip
To say you don't want to do something, use 不想, not 不要.
