Lesson

How Many Times (V过…次)

1. Explain it simply

A number + 次 is a frequency complement that tells how many times something happened.

It comes after the verb, often with the experiential 过: 我去过两次。

When the object is a personal pronoun (他/她/你), put the number + 次 after the pronoun: 我找过他两次。

2. Show examples

我去过北京两次。

Wǒ qù guo Běijīng liǎng cì.

I have been to Beijing twice.

after the verb

我看过那个电影三次。

Wǒ kàn guo nàge diànyǐng sān cì.

I have watched that movie three times.

number + 次

我找过他两次。

Wǒ zhǎo guo tā liǎng cì.

I have looked for him twice.

pronoun, then 次

她来过一次。

Tā lái guo yī cì.

3. Share a tip

Put the number + 次 after the verb. If the object is a personal pronoun (他/她/你), the number + 次 goes after the pronoun, not before it: 我找过他两次 (not 我找过两次他).
