1. Explain it simply
离 links two places to state the distance between them.
The order is [Place A] 离 [Place B], with 离 right before the second place.
Finish with a degree word plus 远 (far) or 近 (near), such as 很远 or 不太近.
2. Show examples
我家离公司很远。
Wǒ jiā lí gōngsī hěn yuǎn.
My home is far from the company.

机场离这儿不太远。
Jīchǎng lí zhèr bù tài yuǎn.
Sandhi:Jīchǎng lí zhèr bú tài yuǎn.
The airport isn't too far from here.
不太 + 远
学校离我家很近。

The school is close to my home.

3. Share a tip
Keep 离 between the two places and put 远/近 at the very end. Never strand 远/近 in the middle or move 离 to the front of the sentence.
