1. Explain it simply
比较 before an adjective softens it to 'relatively / fairly / rather'.
It doesn't need a 比 comparison partner - 比较 alone just gives a mild, non-extreme judgment.
2. Show examples
这家饭馆比较贵。
Zhè jiā fànguǎn bǐjiào guì.
This restaurant is relatively expensive.
比较 + adjective
今天的天气比较好。
Jīntiān de tiānqì bǐjiào hǎo.
Today's weather is fairly good.
A mild, everyday judgment
我比较喜欢喝茶。
Wǒ bǐjiào xǐhuan hē chá.
I rather prefer drinking tea.
比较 can also soften a preference verb
3. Share a tip
比较 here is different from the 比 comparison pattern (A 比 B + adjective) - 比较 makes a standalone, softened judgment with no second thing being compared.
